Free-Standing Jib Crane

A free-standing jib crane is a floor-mounted lifting system designed to provide localized material handling around an individual workstation, machine or production area. Its self-supporting steel column is secured to a reinforced concrete foundation, allowing the jib arm to rotate independently without relying on a building wall or structural column.

JingShi SZJS-XBD free-standing jib cranes are commonly used for CNC machine loading, assembly operations, tool and mold handling, maintenance work and localized material transfer. Standard models are available with rated capacities of 125 kg, 250 kg and 500 kg. Engineered configurations with higher capacities, potentially up to 5 tons, are available according to the required working radius, lifting height, rotation range and installation conditions.

The jib length, lifting height, rotation angle, rail type, hoist, lifting attachment and operating mode can be configured to suit the customer's workstation layout and handling process.

The available capacity, jib length and lifting height cannot be selected independently. Final specifications depend on the combined load moment, operating frequency, slewing method, foundation conditions and lifting equipment configuration.

Application Scenarios

  • CNC Machine Loading: Load and unload workpieces, chucks, fixtures and tooling around lathes, machining centers and inspection equipment.
  • Assembly Workstations: Support component lifting, positioning and fitting within individual assembly cells and production stations.
  • Mold and Die Handling: Assist with the removal, transfer and positioning of molds, dies and maintenance components during changeovers and repair work.
  • Maintenance Operations: Handle motors, pumps, machine components and replacement parts around dedicated maintenance areas.
  • Packing and Material Transfer: Move components, cartons, reels or finished products around packing, palletizing and dispatch workstations.

Engineering & Safety Features

  • Smooth Slewing Mechanism: The column and jib assembly is engineered for smooth rotation and controlled load positioning under the approved rated capacity.
  • Controlled Motion Options: Optional variable-frequency control provides smoother acceleration and deceleration for compatible electric lifting, trolley travel or powered slewing systems, helping reduce load swing during operation.
  • Configurable Safety Features: Depending on the selected hoist and control system, available safety features may include overload protection, emergency stop controls, upper and lower lifting limits, rotation stops and travel limit switches.
  • Engineered Steel Structure: The column, jib arm, base plate and connection points are designed according to the approved capacity, working radius, lifting height and operating conditions.

How to Select a Free-Standing Jib Crane for Your Work Area?

Selecting the correct crane requires more than confirming the load weight. The working radius, lifting height, operating frequency, lifting device and foundation conditions all affect the final design.

  • Rated Capacity: Confirm the maximum weight of the load, including any lifting attachment, gripper, vacuum lifter or below-the-hook tooling where applicable. Avoid selecting the crane based only on the typical load if heavier components may occasionally be handled.
  • Working Radius: Confirm the maximum weight of the load, including any lifting attachment, gripper, vacuum lifter or below-the-hook tooling where applicable. Avoid selecting the crane based only on the typical load if heavier components may occasionally be handled.
  • Lifting Height and Headroom: Confirm the required lowest and highest hook positions, as well as the available ceiling height. The dimensions of the jib arm, trolley and hoist reduce the usable hook height and should be included in the layout review.
  • Rotation Range: A 360° rotation configuration provides broad workstation coverage. Rotation can also be mechanically or electrically limited to 180° or 270° when walls, equipment or restricted operating zones are present.
  • Operating Frequency: Manual slewing may be suitable for lighter loads and occasional operation. Electric or pneumatic assistance should be considered for frequent handling, heavier loads, longer working radii or applications requiring controlled positioning.
  • Foundation Conditions: A free-standing jib crane produces an overturning moment at its base. The concrete foundation, anchor bolts and surrounding floor structure must therefore be designed for the approved crane configuration. JingShi provides foundation and installation requirements after the technical parameters have been confirmed.

FAQ

  • Q: Does it require a concrete foundation?

A: Yes. The crane generates an overturning moment at its base, so an appropriately designed concrete foundation and anchor bolt system are required. Foundation requirements depend on the rated capacity, jib length, lifting height and operating conditions.

  • Q: Can a free-standing jib crane be installed outdoors?

A: Outdoor configurations are available. The appropriate electrical protection, coating system, corrosion protection and weather-resistant lifting equipment should be selected according to wind exposure, temperature, humidity and environmental conditions.

  • Q: What information is needed for a quotation?

A: Please provide the maximum load weight, required working radius, lifting height, rotation range, operating frequency, lifting device, installation environment and available floor or foundation information. A workshop layout or installation photo is also helpful.
